Proteogenixx: Pioneering Science to Detect and Combat Aflatoxins

At Proteogenixx, we are committed to advancing biotechnology-driven solutions that address some of the most pressing challenges in agriculture and food safety. Our current focus is on aflatoxins—toxic secondary metabolites produced by certain Aspergillus species that pose significant risks to crop productivity, food quality, and human and animal health worldwide.

Operating from the BSC BioNEST Bio-Incubator (BBB) at the Regional Centre for Biotechnology (RCB), our research team is developing innovative technologies for early detection, accurate monitoring, and effective mitigation of aflatoxin contamination in food and feed.

Understand the molecular mechanisms underlying aflatoxin biosynthesis

  • Design sensitive and rapid assays for detection in crops and food matrices.
  • Create scalable strategies to minimize contamination during cultivation, storage, and processing
  • Translate laboratory research into field-ready solutions for farmers, food industries, and regulators
